About SGAC

The Space Generation Advisory Council in Support of the United Nations Programme on Space Applications is a global nonprofit organization created in 1999 following recommendations of the UNISPACE III conference to represent students and young professionals in the space sector.

My Involvement

Joining SGAC in 2011 as an ordinary member and in 2012 as a member of the Space Safety and Sustainability Project Group, I had the privilege to hold the following roles in the organization:

  • Honorary Board Member (April 2019-present)
  • Alumni Lead (April 2018-Jan 2020)
  • Advisory Board Member (April 2018 - April 2019)
  • Executive Chairperson (April 2016 - April 2018)
  • Operations Manager (October 2015 - April 2016)
  • Executive Secretary (April 2013 - January 2016)
  • Space Safety and Sustainability Project Group Co-lead (April 2014 - April 2016)

In addition, I was on the organizing teams for many events, including SGC 2014, and the 2017 Moon Village Workshop in Torino. I also represented SGAC at multiple fora including the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.

Achievements

During my tenure at SGAC, thanks to the great work and support of my team, we managed to achieve the following goals:

  • Growth of the network from 4,000 to more than 15,000 members and alumni in 150 countries
  • Increase in the number of events from two global event to 3 global, 5 regional and more than 30 local events
  • Creation of new sustainable relationships with space agencies (CSA, NASA, ESA, CNES, ASI and DLR), companies (Lockheed Martin), nonprofits (IAF, Space Foundation, SEDS USA, UK SEDs, SEDS Canada), and events (Space Tech Expo Europe and USA, SpaceOps, ISEF).
  • Increase in the number of scholarships offered by SGAC and its partners from 10 to more than 100
  • 71% increase in SGAC publications, more than doubling of SGAC followership on social media, and 120% increase in representation at international conferences
  • 20% annual growth in social media presence
  • Launch of a new SGAC website (in 2014 and 2018) along with introduction of google apps for work
  • Revamping the SGAC strategic plan, with the introduction of the SGAC vision 2020, and 2025, along with new metrics monitored monthly
  • Development of sustainable organizational and team structures
  • Creation of a knowledge base of internal documents and processes for knowledge transfer within the organization, and changing the approach to documentation within the organization
  • Growth of the SGAC team (both coordinators and core team) and introduction of multiple new roles
  • Recognition of SGAC as a diverse organization through the IAF 3G Diversity Award 2018
  • More than $800,000 turnover for the organization each year
  • Building more than 300,000 USD in cash reserve for the organization
